Jess Semaan

MFT

I am a queer, SWANA therapist, writer, and activist who is passionate and specialized in working with and supporting first-generation and immigrant individuals navigating relationship challenges, questions of belonging and complex trauma. I also specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ couples, families and have extensive experience in running support groups.

Clients who work with me can expect a space that is warm, honest, and deeply attuned to complexity. I integrate somatic experiencing, internal family systems, relational, Jungian, expressive arts and liberation psychology approaches, and I honor both the wisdom of the body and the mind. I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Therapy as a powerful tool for accessing deeper layers of healing, especially when traditional talk therapy alone may not be enough.

I was born and raised in Lebanon, and my grandparents are from Syria, Palestine and Mount Lebanon. In addition to my clinical work, I lead therapy groups at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and Stanford and I research and speak on the psychology of war, genocide and displacement.
