As a first-generation student, Sedra faced the challenges of adapting to a new environment and pursuing higher education. Originally from Syria, she and her family were forced to leave their homeland in 2011 due to the corruption and oppressive regime under al-Assad and seek refuge in Egypt. After relocating to the United States in 2017, she faced significant challenges adjusting to life in a new culture. These experiences have deeply influenced her passion for mental health advocacy as she and her family had to manage and deal with stress and childhood trauma.

Now, as a member of the Arab American Mental Health Association (AAMHA), Sedra is dedicated to advocating for mental health awareness for the Arab American community and supporting those facing similar challenges, all while continuing her personal and professional growth in the field of psychology and public health at William and Mary.
