Faith & Mental Health

Hello everyone,

I’m genuinely sad to see that this post hasn’t had more activity. Anecdotally, I see Arab men and women struggling with depression often, yet many do not seek therapy, and even fewer find clinicians they feel they can identify with culturally.

I’m not claiming to be any kind of Lebanese savior. I simply know there are certain dynamics I understand firsthand from growing up within this kind of family system and cultural context, including the ways silence, pride, loyalty, and gender expectations can shape how distress is carried and hidden.

I hope to see this thread pick up. I’m going to share it with a few Arab friends and colleagues to help get more voices and support into the conversation.

Hey Kevin!

I can definitely resonate with what you're saying. It is true that many Arabs struggle with their mental health, yet, they shy away from seeking help. It's important to have conversations like this openly so that we can encourage more people to share their stories and ultimately seek appropriate care and guidance. I would definitely love to hear more about your story and get more people on this platform to share their stories so we can create a strong and supportive community for us.

Feeling Seen for the First Time

This community has truly changed the way I see myself and my mental health. As an Arab American, I used to feel like I had to carry everything on my own and stay strong no matter what. But joining this space and hearing stories from others who understand where I come from helped me realize that opening up isn’t weakness it’s growth. Speaking directly with Omar made a huge impact on me; he reminded me that taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body, and that self-compassion doesn’t make you any less resilient. For the first time in a long time, I feel seen, supported, and proud of who I’m becoming.
